Get into the playoffs and move conferences. That's the move:

This was one of my first thoughts when I read this news. It's either us or it's the Liberty Flames filling the spot JMU leaves behind.

We'd give up all-expense-paid trips to Sacramento for this? ;-)

Where are SBH and bobcatsquared with their inside sources when we need them?

Ohio aligning with a bunch of deep south schools would absolutely destroy the fan base over time (what little of it there is).

Our BOT would not make a move like this unless the Red Skinned Potatoes were also part of the package. They believe only an MU move would justify the additional investment in the eyes of our cheapskate alumni/fan base. Truth

They aren't wrong, but what if Miami DID make the jump to the AAC (I doubt it), jumping to the SBC would seem like a wise choice for Ohio. A MAC without Ohio and Miami would be a dead man walking, imo.

It doesn't seem like Fiami cares about joining a conference without us. Screw them.

Yeah, we all know its impossible to get people from Ohio to travel to Myrtle Beach.

Seen repots where at least FIVE remaining Sun Belt schools want to bolt so that's a sinking ship. I think staying put is the smart bet.

^ This I agree with.

We're not a package deal with Miami. If they want to bolt and join a new conference without us, so be it. I won't shed tears for them. It would be nice to keep our rivalry games going, but everyone will do what they will do.

Maybe it's not that our alumni/fanbase is cheap, but rather that the basic premise of a liberal arts education actually takes hold in Athens and people go on to care about things in life that aren't where they went to college or the Idaho Potato Bowl?

I suggest you spend some time with the folks who raise money for the university (not just athletics, but all aspects of the school). Some of them have worked at other schools, including Miami, and are, ahem, not impressed by the generosity of our alums.

I don't know the Sun Belt absorbed a big hit losing JMU and as said before some are looking for the exits. There was a report the state legislature in Lousiana was steering the Louisiana schools of the Sun Belt to move down to FCS. For similar reasons Miami and Toledo are looking around Old Dominion and Applachian State are doing the same. Best move if the MAC with a new TV deal upcoming could talk Marshall, App, ODU, Coastal into joining under a restructured media deal where everyone is paid in accordance with football performance. More departments in the MAC want to spend when you factor in WMU, UMass, Buffalo and to extent Ohio compared to only 3 or 4 in the Sun Belt.

Most Memorable Bobcat Events Attended

2012 45-13 victory over ULM in the Independence Bowl
2015 34-3 drubbing of Fiami @ Peden with 25,086 fans
2023 10-7 near shutout of Iowa State @ Solich Field
2025 17-10 defeat of WVU @ Peden in front of 26,740

Contrarian rumor: WKU again wants to join the MAC.

Just let the non big boys have a division and championship of their own. No way we compete with the top 60 in this environment. We just dont have the money to compete. Besides, every two years we will be losing any player that develops.

Dear Football Gods,

Please unite Miami, Toledo, Buffalo, Marshall, WKU and Western Michigan to form a PAC12 East. We could save on travel, still schedule 2-3 Pac12 West teams in regular season and create a strong G6 brand that could steal 1-2 Power 4 wins annually. Hopefully, the CFP will look at the new Pac12 differently and allow us to re-enter as a P5 brand with an automatic bid in the CFP. AMEN!

The P12 will never, ever be let back into the P4 ranks. That ship sailed. They are G6 and will be treated as such, no matter who they add.

And with the 24-team playoff coming, there'll be ONE bid for the entire G6. So chew on that.

It won't be Liberty. It will either be Ohio or WKU/MO State.

Wanting to is one thing. Being able to is something else. JMU is paying the AAC $20 million just to join, plus paying $5 million to the SBC for exit fees. The SBC had already been actively considering raising the exit fees, which is why JMU went ahead and pulled the trigger. JMU was in a situation where they had enough well off donors guarantee the fees. I doubt the others do. I am confident the current membership will remain where it is now.

Interesting, according to reports, Miami was offering $30 million to the AAC to join. Not sure what exit fees in the MAC are.
