For anyone that missed it (I only saw it on fb), basketball is hosting an open intrasquad scrimmage at the Convo on Saturday at 11 am between the parade and football game.

More like your fathers Bobcats and look little like last couple of seasons.

Pav participating fully and seems to be working with getting others to contribute slashing to the hoop and kicking out for now made threes. The new kid from Australia, the big guard is a baller. Kwani more confident.

Lots of athleticism and hot shooting from downtown!

Sorry I dont know names.

Text from buddy -

Really good. This is the best roster weve had top to bottom in a while. Were so deep, I couldnt tell you whos going to start. Kyler is a dude. Kolton Mitchell is awesome. All the new overseas kids are legit. We can actually shoot the ball which we havent had in a minute

I got there a little late, saw 2nd half-ish. Most excited about the 3 point shooting, they were falling. But then again, 3 point defense has been an issue? Double sided coin of evaluating an intrasquad game.

Was definitely overwhelming, should have brought a pen and paper to jot down notes. KDA was smooth, honestly not unlike Pavs. Idaho kid impressed. 7 footer looked competent, not like a wiz. We can't forget about Zay, he had some nice plays. It will be very interesting to see how we end up diving up minutes, especially if Pavs can return it sure seems like a difficult task but good problem to have.

I thought 6-7 Siebe Ledegen was the best player on the court today. Ohio fans are going to love his quick catch and release and his height that will allow him to get his shot off with a defender in his face.

The most impressive take-away from today, however, was Boals telling me that Pav turned down offers including more $$ from several bigger schools. I think he mentioned 3 with two that I recall being Minnesota and Notre Dame and added Ohio University and Athens was enough of a draw to convince him to return to the Ohio program. Boals didn't come out and say it, but reading between the lines, I heard him say it was Pav's love of Court St. Finally, Boals suggested we all say a prayer for the Indiana appellate court.

Thanks for posting. I love to hear about players with a sense of loyalty. I suspect it was the total OHIO experience not just Court Street that made him want to stay.

You're scaring me a bit. He sounds like A.J. Clayton, who obviously was a great player but who rarely went inside (even though he was effective inside). Please tell me Ledegen will drive to the rack as well.

Watching Ledegen for less than 15 minutes in an intrasquad game is not enough to qualify me to allay your concern.

Two entirely different player profiles and scenarios too. Ledegen is a wing. Clayton was a stretch 4 on a small team with no inside threat.

Ledegen's tape showed a well rounded offensive game. If he's ripping 3's primarily at a high %, I don't find that that concerning with the way the rest of the roster is constructed.

His videos included him driving to the hoop effectively.

I just got around to looking at the videos of our new players. The comment about this not being your fathers basketball team would appear to be right on. It does feel a little unethical recruiting a 24 year-old former professional but overall it would appear that there are a whole lot of talented guys that dont need a year or two to mature and come into their own.

from ESPN:
LSU men's basketball coach Will Wade is pushing the boundaries of college basketball by attempting to build an unconventional roster filled with players who have prior professional or international experience, while navigating major legal and contractual disputes.

An entire roster. Not just one guy.

Imagine being the AD at LSU and wondering what firestorm gets started week to week dealing with Lane Kiffin and Will Wade.

ESPN updated last night (mentions both coaches)

The SEC has filed a memorandum in opposition to LSU's request that a federal court dismiss the conference's lawsuit against the university and its officials, saying a live controversy still exists between the parties and highlighting the Tigers' men's basketball team's effort to add a player who had previously signed multiple two-way NBA contracts.

"This case addresses a broader dispute: Defendants' complete lack of institutional control over LSU's athletic programs, their ongoing defiance of the Conference's Professionalism Rules, and the very real threat -- reiterated in Defendants' briefing -- that Defendants will interfere with any effort to terminate LSU's membership in the Conference," the SEC's court filing, issued Tuesday, said. "That dispute remains live."

The dispute between the SEC and LSU arose from Tigers coach Lane Kiffin's plans to add tight end Dae'Quan Wright and defensive tackle Zxavian Harris, who both had spent time in NFL training camps before returning to school.

---------------------------------------------------

LSU needs to watch their step. If they get the boot, Texas Tech, Florida State and/or how many others would jump at the chance to join the $EC. There are already rumors about UNC to the $EC in a few years.

Other than the SEC's rules, which seem arbitrary, how is this different from the OHIO basketball roster that contains several new players who have played professionally?
